How to use the Nonogram solver

  1. Pick the grid size to match your puzzle (5Γ—5 or 10Γ—10).
  2. Type each row’s clue in order, separating the numbers with a space β€” for example β€œ2 1”. Leave a row blank if it has no filled cells.
  3. Do the same for every column clue.
  4. Tap Solve β€” the hidden picture fills in. If the clues conflict or allow more than one picture, the solver tells you.
  5. Tap Clear to start a new puzzle.

How the solver works

The solver reads your row and column clues and works out the only shading that satisfies all of them β€” the same line-by-line logic a person uses, applied until the picture is forced. It also checks how many pictures fit, so it can tell you when a clue set is impossible or ambiguous rather than guessing.

Because it follows the real rules of Nonograms β€” the clue numbers are the lengths of the filled blocks in each line, in order β€” the result is always a valid completion of the clues you entered.

When to use a Nonogram solver

  • You are stuck. Reveal the rest of a Picross that has you beaten.
  • Check a puzzle you made. The solver flags whether your clues give exactly one picture β€” essential if you are designing your own.
  • Verify your progress. Compare the solver’s answer with what you have so far to find where you went wrong.

Reading the clues

Each clue lists the lengths of the filled blocks in that line, in order, with at least one gap between blocks β€” so β€œ3 1” means a run of three, a gap, then a single. Enter the numbers exactly in that order, separated by spaces. A line with no filled cells is left blank. If you are new to the rules, the how-to-play guide explains them in full.

Nonogram solver: FAQ

How do I use the Nonogram solver?

Choose the grid size, then type each row clue and each column clue as space-separated numbers (for example β€œ2 1”), leaving empty lines blank. Tap Solve and the hidden picture appears. If the clues conflict or are ambiguous, the solver tells you.

Does it solve Picross too?

Yes β€” Picross, Hanjie and Griddlers are all names for the same puzzle as Nonogram, so the solver works for any of them. Enter the row and column clues and it reveals the picture.

Will it tell me if my clues are wrong or ambiguous?

Yes. The solver checks the clues: it warns you if a run is too long to fit, if no picture satisfies the clues, or if more than one picture fits (which usually means a clue is mistyped).

Is the Nonogram solver free?

Yes β€” it runs free in your browser on phone, tablet and desktop, with no download and no sign-up. The solving happens on your own device.
